You Do Not Have to Fix Yourself to Feel Pleasure: How Tantra and Parts Work Heal Intimacy From the Inside Out
You do not have to fix yourself to feel pleasure. That is the first thing I want you to know before you read another word.
I have sat with people in the most vulnerable territory a human being can enter. I have watched someone arrive held tight inside themselves, nervous, unsure, carrying years of shame or silence or disconnection in their body, and I have watched that same person, over time, come home to themselves in a way that no amount of talking had ever reached.
That is what this work does. And today I want to pull back the curtain on exactly how I do it, because the combination I bring into every immersion session is one that almost nobody in this field is talking about, and I believe it is the most powerful thing I have ever witnessed.
I am a certified Tantra teacher, certified Massage Therapist, and master bodyworker. My sessions are pleasure based and body led. That is not a disclaimer or a caveat. That is the whole architecture. The body is not a vehicle for the mind to ride around in. The body is the doorway to infinite knowledge. Tantra has known this for thousands of years, and it remains the most direct path I have found to genuine intimacy, genuine pleasure, and genuine healing.
But I am also deeply, devotedly studied in Internal Family Systems and parts work, and in the profound relationship between IFS and Tantra specifically. I want to be completely transparent with you. I am not a licensed psychotherapist. I do not diagnose. I do not treat. What I bring into the room is the ability to recognize when a part of you has arrived, to name it with care, and to invite you into something that goes far beyond intellectual understanding.
I call it innerstanding.
Not understanding. Innerstanding. This is true embodiment. Knowing something from the inside. Feeling it move through you, shift, soften, and finally unburden. That is a different thing entirely. And it is what becomes possible when Tantra and parts work meet in the same space.
What IFS Actually Is
Internal Family Systems was developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz and is now one of the most respected frameworks in modern therapeutic practice. At its center is a radical and liberating premise: there are no bad parts. Every part of you, no matter how disruptive, destructive, or confusing its behavior, took on that role to protect you. Every single one.
IFS understands the psyche as an inner family, a community of subpersonalities, each with its own feelings, beliefs, needs, and history. These parts often show up as specific inner voices, the critic, the achiever, the people pleaser, the one who disappears when things get too close. They show up as body sensations, images, impulses, and patterns that seem to have a life of their own.
Underneath all of them lives something IFS calls Self. Not a part. Not a role. Your innate, undamaged essence. The calm, compassionate awareness that was there before the wounds and is still there now, waiting. IFS describes Self through eight qualities often called the 8 Cs: calm, curiosity, clarity, compassion, confidence, courage, creativity, and connectedness. Self is not something you have to build or earn. It is what you already are when the parts step back enough to let it lead.
Meet Your Inner Family: The Three Parts
This is the map I work from. And once you see it, you will recognize these parts everywhere, in yourself, in your relationships, in the patterns that have followed you for years.
Exiles
Exiles are the youngest, most vulnerable parts of your inner world. They carry unprocessed pain, fear, shame, grief, and unmet needs from earlier experiences, often from childhood. Because their emotions can feel overwhelming to the whole system, the psyche pushes them out of awareness. They live, as IFS founder Dr. Richard Schwartz describes it, in the basement, holding memories and beliefs like I am too much, I am not enough, I am unlovable, or I do not deserve to take up space.
Exiles are not broken. They are young parts who were never given what they needed and have been waiting, sometimes for decades, to finally be seen and heard with gentleness rather than more shame.
Managers
Managers are proactive protectors. Their entire purpose is to prevent you from ever feeling the exiles’ pain again. They run your day-to-day life with strategies like controlling, planning, people pleasing, overachieving, caretaking, and self-criticism. They keep you performing, producing, and presenting well so that nothing threatens to crack the surface and let the exile pain through.
Managers are not the enemy. They are exhausted protectors who have been working overtime. In tantric and intimate work, managers often show up as the part that monitors everything, deflects with humor, retreats into the mind just when the body is about to open, or keeps a careful watch over how much feels safe to feel at any given moment.
Firefighters
Firefighters are also protectors, but they are reactive rather than proactive. They leap into action when exile pain breaks through despite the managers’ best efforts. Their strategies are fast, intense, and sometimes extreme because their only goal is to put out the fire of overwhelming emotion as quickly as possible.
Firefighters are behind many of the behaviors we judge most harshly in ourselves: compulsive numbing, substance use, overworking, binge consuming, shutting down completely, or reaching for anything outside yourself to make the feeling stop. In the context of intimacy and embodiment work, firefighters often drive the patterns people feel most ashamed of and least able to explain. They are not character flaws. They are parts that found a strategy that worked once and never got told they could stop.
This is the piece that changes everything in tantric work: what looks like resistance, avoidance, or an unwanted pattern in your intimate life is almost always a firefighter doing its job. When you can meet it with curiosity instead of shame, the entire landscape shifts.
A Simple Way to Hold the Whole Map
Think of it this way. Exiles hold the raw wounds. Managers keep life controlled so those wounds stay buried. Firefighters jump in to shut pain down when it breaks through anyway. And underneath all of it, Self waits, calm, compassionate, and wise, ready to lead the moment it is given enough space.
Tantric practice invites everything into the sacred container. IFS gives you the precise language and method to meet each of these parts with care instead of bypassing or shaming them. Together, they create something I have not found anywhere else.
What Tantra and Parts Work Together Actually Do
Because Tantra works directly with the body, with breath, with sensory awareness, with the most vulnerable and most alive parts of what it means to be human, it will wake things up. That is its genius. And it is also where, without the right container, people can feel overwhelmed or retriggered without the tools to integrate what arose.
Trauma informed tantric practitioners understand that the body holds everything. When a session activates an exiled part that carries shame, or the belief that your body is not yours to enjoy, or an old wound around intimacy that never got to complete itself, I do not blast through it. I do not spiritually bypass it with a breathing technique and a blessing. I slow down. I get curious. I help you meet that part with the same spacious, loving awareness that is the whole promise of tantric practice to begin with.
Somatic bodywork practitioners and IFS clinicians have documented how many of the things people call problems with intimacy, low desire, shutdown, and disconnection from their own body, are actually protective parts doing exactly what they were built to do: preventing an old humiliation or violation from happening again. Religious and cultural shame around the body often shows up as a harsh inner critic that sounds like absolute truth. IFS reframes these as parts carrying inherited messages, not permanent facts, and creates a pathway to release them so that authentic pleasure has somewhere to return to.
Research on shame shows it strongly predicts what are called negative self-schemas, the deep stories we carry about who we are. Tantra combined with parts work can literally rewrite those stories. Not by force. By presence.
What the Neuroscience Actually Shows
This is not mysticism. This is science.
Research on mindfulness and contemplative practice shows measurable changes in the regions of the brain responsible for emotion regulation and self-awareness, including the medial cortex, the insula, the amygdala, and the hippocampus. Sustained practice, the kind that both deep Tantra and IFS cultivate together, literally reshapes the brain for greater attention, greater compassion, and greater emotional resilience.
When meditation is integrated with parts work, it enhances your capacity to remain in Self while meeting activated parts. Your inner landscape becomes less volatile. Your nervous system becomes less reactive. Your capacity for pleasure, for genuine intimacy, for the kind of presence that Tantra is pointing at, expands in ways that are real, lasting, and entirely yours to keep.
What This Looks Like When You Are in the Room With Me
My sessions begin in the body. Always. Breath. Sensation. Presence. Pleasure as the entry point and the teacher.
And if something arises that is not pleasure, I am not startled by it and I will not rush past it. I will recognize it. I will name it. I will sit with you in it with the full weight of everything I have studied and everything I have lived through myself.
The part of you that is afraid is not the enemy of your healing. It is the guardian of it. And when it finally feels safe enough to step aside, what comes through is not just pleasure.
It is wholeness.
That is what I am here for. Not just the opening. The integration. Not just the peak. The return. Not just understanding what happened to you.
Innerstanding who you actually are.
And you do not have to fix a single thing about yourself to begin.
You deserve a container that can hold all of you. Not just the parts that feel ready. All of you. That has always been the promise of this work, and it is the promise I bring into every single session.
